If you’re searching for a reasonably priced defender to fit into your 2012 AFL Dream Team, then Mitch Golby could be the answer.

The 20 year-old Victorian seems to have found himself a position in the Lions’ back six, with impressive displays in each of his first two pre-season outings.

Golby showed poise in trying conditions during the Lions’ NAB Cup opener against Melbourne on the Gold Coast, before being rested for the second match of the three-way series.

But it was his performance last Saturday night against Adelaide that will have Dream Team coaches giving serious consideration to former Gippsland Power product.

Golby, who played predominantly across half back, collected 23 disposals, took seven marks and laid four tackles on his way to a team-high 100 Dream Team points.

The former rookie made his AFL debut last season, and showed enough in his first eight senior matches to warrant being elevated permanently to the Club’s primary list.

At the bargain Dream Team price of just $265,200, he presents great value in the popular online fantasy football competition.

Another defender of note is Matt Maguire, who has held down the key defensive post during the pre-season in the absence of regular full-back Daniel Merrett.

Maguire is listed at the modest price of $225,900 and scored 96 points last weekend courtesy of his 23 touches and nine marks.

Meanwhile, Tom Rockliff and Jack Redden continue to find plenty of the ball and look set to be big Dream Team scorers again in 2012.
