BRISBANE Lions coach Michael Voss is hopeful Saturday night’s eight-point win over Collingwood can be a turning point in his team’s stuttering season.

The Lions stormed home at the Gabba to break a five-game losing streak and revive their finals chances and Voss said the win was important in the context of the season.

“We had momentum at the start of the year, but we had intervention in that Melbourne game - they were too good for us and we have been struggling to find our feet since," he said after the match.

“To get the win is a big one in the context of the season.

“Slowly over the last couple of weeks we were seeing signs that we were turning the corner but we didn't get the result.

“Tonight we got reward for effort. Some of the things they have put in place have come to the fore for us.”

Voss said the Lions focused on matching the running power of sides like Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs in the pre-season and it was nice to see some rewards.

While he praised a young brigade of players led by Daniel Rich and Tom Rockliff, Voss said it was nice to see his spearheads Jonathan Brown and Brendan Fevola working cohesively again, kicking four goals apiece.

“That's why they are in the side,” he said.

“The defensive parts of their game was very good, they worked in well together tonight, they complemented each other well.

“We need Brendan Fevola and Jonathan Brown to kick eight goals between them.”

In his 250th game, Luke Power was brilliant for the winners, racking up 35 possessions, and his former captain and now coach said the milestone might have helped get his team over the line.

“I hope so, maybe in the preparation, but as the game unfolds I don't think it was that big a factor, or maybe at the end of the game when they are looking for that bit extra it is,” he said.

“He has been important to our club, no doubt about that. He certainly played an enormous game for us tonight.”
