The clever forward had already activated a trigger in his existing contract to play-on at the Gabba in 2022 and has now put pen to paper on a new deal ensuring he will remain in Lions colours for at least three more years.

The 27-year-old has cemented himself as a key component of Chris Fagan’s side since arriving at the end of 2018, averaging a goal and four tackles per game in the 58 appearances he’s made for the Club.

He assumed more responsibility in 2021 by accepting a position in the leadership group and has recorded career best numbers with 23 goals and 15 goal assists from 17 games to date.

McCarthy said he had found a home at the Lions and was thrilled to have his future with the Club locked-away for three more years.

“I have really loved the past three seasons I’ve spent with the Lions and am so happy to have been given the opportunity to extend my time here,’’ he said.

“I’m so grateful to the Club for the opportunity they’ve given me and the relationships I’ve built.

“And I’m inspired by where we have come from and the journey we are on, we have an incredibly tight knit group who share the same goals and the determination to work towards achieving them.

GM of Football Danny Daly said McCarthy was a highly valued and respected figure within the Lions who had made significant contributions both on and off the field.

“Linc has been an amazing addition to our footy Club,’’ he said.

“The care he exhibits for his teammates and staff highlights the quality of person he is, and it was little surprise that he was elevated into our leadership group this year.

“And his performances on the field over his three seasons with us have been first rate.

“We are thrilled that Linc has signed-on for three more years.’’
