Brisbane Lions spearhead Jonathan Brown could get a chance to blow the cobwebs before Round One during the upcoming ‘Festival of Football’ at Burpengary.

As part of the ‘Festival of Football’ at the new Moreton Bay Central Sport Complex on Saturday 8 March, the Lions will face Aspley in a NEAFL practice match at 11am before the senior team hosts Sydney for their final competitive hitout of the pre-season at 2:30pm.

Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton said he hoped to have the five-time Club leading goal-kicker ready to play by then.

“Browny’s tracking along well. We’ll hopefully give him some game time next week at Burpengary – whether that’s through the reserves or the seniors,” Burton said.

If Brown does line up in the NEAFL curtain-raiser, it would be the first time since probably his debut season that he represented the reserves side.

No doubt it would add some spice to what would already be an interesting match-up against the reigning NEAFL Grand Finalists.

In the meantime, Burton revealed the Lions would get some more match practice under their belt this Friday at the new Burpengary sports precinct.

“We’ll play three 15-minute thirds so we can get a bit more of a hitout and gives and opportunity for our reserves and rehab guys to get a run as well,” he said.

The latest injury list suggests that draftee Lewis Taylor might also get his first run in Lions colours against either Aspley or the Swans on Saturday 8 March.
