We take a look at some of the key talking points from Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch’s press conference this morning.

On Geelong

“No doubt they’ll want to bounce back. We all do. We’re both coming off loses, you want to win every week but I’m probably more focused on what we need to do.”

On Robinson and Rich

“We can’t take players into games that are unfit, that’s first and foremost. It takes precedence over everything.”

On Missed Opportunities

The Lions kicked 11.17 against North Melbourne, with many of them gettable set shots. But of equal concern to Coach Justin Leppitsch was the five goals they handed the Kangaroos with free kicks.

“We've got a lot of work to do to make sure we don't give away free kicks, particularly in our defensive 50. That's an extremely high number.

“If you rush in too hard and throw your arms around and don't get your technique right, you're going to give away free kicks, so we've got to get better in that area.”

On Contested Ball

The Lions’ primary focus heading into playing the Cats will be improving its contested ball numbers.

“Our contested ball is something we have to work on. We have to at least match Geelong in that area for us to get our game up and going,” Leppitsch said.

“We're scoring well, even with the poor contested ball tally we've had the last couple of weeks.”

On Getting It Right In Front of the Sticks

“Unless that figure tidies up, we know as a footy club we're not going to bridge the gap any quicker, so we've been focusing on that this week.”
