Lions.com.au takes a look at the five players to watch ahead of our Round 21 game against Carlton at the Gabba.

Lewis Taylor

Fresh off a three year contract extension during the week, Taylor is looking to finish the season strong.

The small forward has high hopes for the Lions’ future success.

“I want to be able to say that I was part of that rebuild at the Lions,” Lewis said of his decision to re-sign.

“That’s obviously something pretty special, and something that we are willing to work for, and we’ll get there.”

 TEAM: Lions make four changes

Jacob Weitering

Pick #1 of the 2015 National Draft Jacob Weitering has played some of his best games against both Queensland teams; recording a career-high 26 disposals against the SUNs in Round 3 followed by 24 disposals and an impressive 14 marks against the Lions in Round 11.

Though young, Weitering has already proved himself as a key defender for the Blues. It will be interesting to see who he will line up on.

Mitch Robinson

One of Mitch Robinson’s best performances to date was his run-with role on Bryce Gibbs the last time we met.

Robinson held the Blues star to just 12 possessions while collecting 25 of his own, 15 of them contested and laying nine tackles.

There’s no doubt Robinson loves to stick it to his former teammates when we come head to head.

Kade Simpson

Simpson is in peak form, featuring in the AFL’s Team of the Week following a career-high game on the weekend.

In what will be his 262nd game, Simpson will bring with him a wealth of knowledge that has no doubt contributed to his nearly 27 disposals per game average this season and sees him ranked fifth in the league for rebound 50’s.

Sam Docherty

There is a certain pressure that comes with facing your former club but Docherty will be feeling the heat this weekend as the half-back is in with a chance for a spot in the All Australian squad, pending on his performance this weekend.

While Carlton’s form has wavered in recent months Docherty has maintained a high level, averaging 26 touches a game.
