This week’s throwback moment is from just under a year ago, when the Brisbane Lions staved off a fast-finishing Carlton Blues outfit to hold on for a thrilling four-point victory.

Under sunny skies at the Gabba, the Lions made a blazing start to the match and piled on seven goals in the first quarter to lead by 24 points.

The second quarter was all the home side, with Dayne Zorko running riot on his way to 19 touches, 10 inside 50s, three goals and four goal assists at half time.

Leading by 41 points early in the third quarter, the hot conditions began to take their toll on the young Lions, with the Blues starting to claw their way back into the game.

The 17,432 fans in attendance were treated to a thrilling finish when Dale Thomas had a set shot from deep in the left forward pocket with two minutes remaining to put Carlton in front, but he missed to the near side.

The gutsy win was the Lions third of the season, with the score finishing 15.9 (99) to 13.17 (95).

Tom Rockliff had a huge match, tallying 39 disposals, 12 tackles and two goals, while Zorko finished with 27 disposals after Carlton wisely chose to tag him in the second half. Michael Close was exceptional up front and bagged four goals.
