The Brisbane Lions NEAFL side were disappointed to record their second loss for the season against the Sydney Swans last weekend.

The coaching staff said the players did not play their selfless brand of football they had become known for in 2018.

“It was a disappointing result for our footy Club and our NEAFL side. We didn’t win the key stats on the day,” Development Coach Zane Littlejohn said.

“A few things probably weren’t at the level we expect them to be at, let alone AFL or NEAFL level.

“The players weren’t happy with that on the day.”

The Lions went down by three goals but beat the Swans in some key statistics on the day.

“We finished with more possessions in the game but unfortunately we didn’t use the ball smart enough against the Swans,” Littlejohn said.

Midfielder Tom Bell was one who had 42 disposals for the Lions and kicked one goal and three behinds. He currently sits equal first on the NEAFL’s MVP ladder.

“He amassed a lot of footy,” Littlejohn said.

“The thing about Tom is he works super hard.”

This weekend the team will be looking to redeem themselves when they host a game on the Sunshine Coast against the Aspley Hornets.

“We need to bounce back now, Aspley are a very good one-on-one football side like the Swans are,” Littlejohn said.

Coaching staff want the group to get back to playing their style of football.

“We didn’t do that on the weekend. Our ball movement wasn’t to the standard we expect it to be. As I mentioned before we probably didn’t play the style of footy in regards to being a good teammate so we’ll really look at our guys to drive that.”
