The newly appointed Brisbane Lions Captain, Dayne Beams, has expressed much excitement regarding the upcoming season.

In a recent interview with RadioTAB, Beams mentioned the new attitude and positivity that the first-time coach, Chris Fagan has instilled within the club.

Beams spoke confidently about the new coach’s influence on the team stating, “the last four to five months have been very positive.”

As the Lions enter the 2017 season, Beams will be supported by a leadership group of six other players including Tom Rockliff, Dayne Zorko, Stefan Martin, Allen Christensen, Ryan Lester and Harris Andrews who offer the opportunity to provide a balance of support and experience to the younger players.

“There’s a lot more people having a voice at training and driving the direction that they want to take the group,” he said.

Beams also showed praise to the emerging young talent stating, “One thing I look at is their ability to be able to learn and then take on feedback.”

One player that had proved particularly impressive to the Captain was Hugh McCluggage.

McCluggage was the Brisbane Lions third pick in the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft and has shown much promise throughout the JLT community series.

"He knows how to get around the field and how to buy himself a bit of time and space," Beams said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how he goes"

As the Lions enter their final weeks of pre-season competition Beams is confident that the team has the positivity, guidance and new faces necessary to be excited about the season ahead.
