Captain Tom Rockliff will miss the final NAB Challenge match against GWS with a hamstring niggle but is expected to be right for Round One of the AFL season.

Lions Football Manager Matthew Francis confirmed Rockliff had a back-related hamstring niggle earlier in the pre-season which was being managed. However, the Club is confident Rockliff will be available for the start of the season proper.

“It’s ongoing but it’s being managed,” Francis told lions.com.au.

“It looks like he’ll only miss the one week. The Club is working hard to have him 100% right for round one.”

The Lions today named a squad of 27 that will be trimmed to 24 on Sunday.

While Rockliff goes out, Mitch Robinson, Nick Robertson, Liam Dawson and first year player Reuben William are additions to the list of 27.

After torrential rain caused the cancellation of the Lions’ match last weekend, Vice-Captains Dayne Zorko, Pearce Hanley, Daniel Merrett and Daniel Rich along with star ruckman Stefan Martin will all pull on the maroon, blue and gold for the first time this year.

Off-season recruit Ryan Bastinac will make his debut for the Club and promising youngster Daniel McStay has also been named for his first hit-out of the pre-season.
