Terry Wallace has praised the Lions' key 2014 off-season signings of Dayne Beams, Mitch Robinson and Allen Christensen.

Wallace gave his report card on the Lions' 2015 Season on Sportsday with Tony Leonard last week and said the trio will only get better.

"Firstly to show they could attract quality players to the team was a bonus and the players they brought in ended up having a pretty good year for them," Wallace said.

"Beams was outstanding, he would have won their best and fairest by the length of a straight if he had of stood up (without injury).

"Along with equal best and fairest winner Mitch Robinson and Allen Christensen, a bit of a slow start (coming back from surgery) but ended up only two votes short – I thought those three boys showed they'd be pretty good acquisitions for the future.

"They got improvement out of Marco Paparone down back. I thought it worked really well for them and that stacked up in his best and fairest performance and Harris Andrews showed some real positive signs", Wallace said.

"Stefan Martin's ruck work continues to grow and thrive and when Pearce Hanley returned to the team we just saw how good he is and how important he is to them.

"With a full summer under his belt, getting him back to full fitness will be huge for the Brisbane Lions."

Wallace said some 'underlying' off-field club issues had at times overshadowed some positive on-field performances.

"Injuries to key players all year clearly didn't help them.

"They had the James Aish (contract) issue all year, they had the Zac O'Brien situation with Justin Leppitsch, there were issues with the captain Tom Rockliff and how he goes about his leadership, there was talk of player walk out, there were off-field issues that led to Jack Redden wanting to leave the Club," Wallace said.

"That's too many things in one year and it makes for a non-competitive year."
