Brisbane Lions recruit Josh Walker is embracing a move up north as the Lions’ new ready-made key forward option.

Walker was traded from Geelong to the Lions along with big-bodied midfielder Jarrad Jansen during last month’s AFL Trade Period – signing a deal that will keep him at the Club until the end of 2018.

“The Club’s been great. The people have been really good in welcoming me and making me feel part of them already.

“I made the decision at the end of the season that the best thing for my career was to potentially make a move,” Walker told lions.com.au.

“I spoke to Brisbane, I came up and had a look around and liked what I saw.”

Walker, at 196cm and 99kg, will provide a mature-bodied presence up forward for a Lions team that lacked targets at times in 2015.

He claimed a career-high 18 disposals in Round 16 this season and recorded a career-high five goals against the Lions in Round 18.

“I had some good games. Ideally I’d like to do that every week. If I can be a regular performer and deliver that on a regular basis then I think that’s my job done.”

Walker will begin pre-season training with the senior squad on November 23 and in the meantime is preparing to move from Geelong to Brisbane.

“I’ve been up on the weekend and looked at a few houses. Hopefully I’ll find one that I don’t mind and my girlfriend doesn’t mind and then we’ll get our stuff all trucked up.”

Walker is the fourth former Cat on the Lions’ list, joining Allen Christensen (2014), Trent West (2013) and Jansen (2015) who have all made the move north.

“There’s a few Geelong guys up here already so there are a few familiar faces that makes it a bit easier, but I also met Dayne Beams the other night who’s a great guy as well.”
