Lions.com.au takes an in-depth look at the statistics from Saturday’s two-point win over Gold Coast in QClash 5.

Disposals
Daniel Rich responded to his relatively quiet start to the season with a hard-working performance in the midfield.

Despite being closely tagged by Karmichael Hunt, Rich collected a team-high 27 disposals – 18 of which were contested.

Jack Redden also returned to form with 26 disposals, while Pearce Hanley was busy again with 26 touches - the last of which resulted in a clutch goal in the dying stages.

Marks
Sam Mayes looked like a seasoned veteran – not a first-gamer – playing at Metricon Stadium last Saturday night, showing poise well beyond his years.

He finished with a team-high 10 marks in conditions not generally suited for taking grabs.

Co-Captain Jonathan Brown was equally impressive with eight marks, including three inside 50m.

Clearances
Jack Redden was back to his bullocking best, clearing the ball more times than any other Lions player.

Redden finished with nine clearances, closely followed by Rich who had eight.

Redden and recruit Brent Moloney are now equal Club leaders after three rounds with 17 clearances each.

Tackles
Redden also maintained his title at the team’s best tackler with a team-high nine against the Suns.

Tom Rockliff and Jed Adcock also applied plenty of pressure with six tackles each.

Goals
Jonathan Brown turned back the clock with a vintage display in tough conditions for a big power forward.

Brown not only kicked five goals from six shots, but he also handed off an equal team-high two goal assists. He proved the match-winner, and it was no surprise to see him awarded the Marcus Ashcroft Medal.

Brown now leads the team’s goal-kicking tally with a total of six majors from three games. Josh Green and Stefan Martin are equal second with four goals each.

Dream Team
The Lions’ top five AFL Dream Team scorers were as follows:

108 – Pearce Hanley
106 – Jonathan Brown
104 – Jack Redden
95 – Sam Mayes
93 – Tom Rockliff

Lions Reserves
There were some big stats-winners in the Reserves’ 105-point rout of Gold Coast on Sunday afternoon.

Sam Docherty (35 disposals), Patrick Karnezis (32) and Callum Bartlett (30) had plenty of possessions, while Aaron Cornelius and Jordan Lisle led the way up forward with four goals apiece.

Draftee Marco Paparone also had a big afternoon, running the Suns ragged with 28 touches and 15 marks.
