LAST TIME THEY MET
Hawthorn managed a convincing 65 point win over the Brisbane Lions when they last meet in Round 12, 2012. The two teams battled it out in cold, rainy conditions at the MCG.

The first half was a see-sawing affair, with eight lead changes before the main break. Hawthorn’s inaccuracy in front of goal kept the Lions in the game and it wasn’t until the third quarter that they stamped their authority on the game.

Shaun Burgoyne and Cyril Ryoli caused trouble for the Lions with their pace through the midfield and Matt Suckling added to the Lions woes with his attack off the backline.

Matt Maguire had the best of Lance Franklin for most of the day, before three last quarter goals took his tally to five for the day.

Dayne Zorko was the best of the Lions, kicking three goals in just his fifth AFL game. Rockliff and Raines worked hard too, but there was no stopping the rampant Hawks who went home with the four points for the sixth time in seven weeks.

Brownlow Medal Votes: 3. S Burgoyne (HAW), 2. D Zorko (BRI), 1. L Franklin (HAW)
