Summary

George Holden was a livewire wingman who gave 12 years of service to the Club as a player and coach during its early ‘golden era’.

A dual winner of Fitzroy’s Best and Fairest award, Holden was widely considered the team’s best player in their 1913 premiership win over St Kilda. He was just as busy three years later when the Maroons defeated Carlton in the 1916 VFL Grand Final.

He went on to captain/coach the Club from 1916-18 before wrenching his knee in the opening match of the 1919 season which ultimately ended his football career.
