The discussion was a familiar one for the Brisbane Lions, who were stripped of their concessions after the Club won three consecutive Premierships from 2001-2003.
The Lions are now the only AFL club operating in a Rugby League dominated State that doesn’t receive any additional salary cap provisions.
Lions Chairman Angus Johnson told The Courier Mail on Monday that all Queensland and NSW-based clubs needed to be looked after to ensure the growth and prosperity of the game in these relatively foreign AFL markets.
"We have empathy with Sydney and the environment in which they operate but we operate in a very similar environment," Johnson told The Courier Mail.
"If anyone had reason to complain about Sydney's salary cap relief it would be the Brisbane Lions. We put a good offer to a player who wanted to come home but obviously money speaks volumes.
"We are the only club in the emerging states that doesn't receive salary cap relief and we sometimes feel we are operating with one hand tied behind our back."
