Tahlia Hickie might have announced herself to the AFLW competition in 2021, but the young ruck looks set to continue her rise in 2022.

A career-best performance has seen the 21-year-old earn herself a place in the Round 4 AFLW Team of the Week.

It's the first time in 2022 that anyone has secured the position over inaugural Carlton ruck, Breann Moody.

Her dominant performance against Carlton saw Hickie take 34 hitouts, with 12 of those to advantage and three clearances, the second-highest number of hit-outs behind Erin McKinnon and Emma King's shared record of 39.

Her Round 4 performance was well and above her previous career best of 20, recorded in the 2021 AFLW Preliminary and Grand Finals.

Nat Grider and Emily Bates also earnt themselves their second AFLW Team of the Week nomination with their strong performances on Saturday.

Nat Grider dictated play from defence against the Cats with 16 disposals and five tackles.

The young star has found herself becoming a key component of the Lions defence since the loss of key defender Kate Lutkins in Round 1.

Emily Bates, who's also in career-best form, backed up a strong performance in Round 3 with another 24 disposals, seven clearances and six tackles.

The experienced midfielder also surpassed her 750th career disposal on the weekend, the most of any Lion in AFLW history.
