JUST seven days after fracturing his cheekbone, Jonathan Brown was back at Brisbane Lions' training on Wednesday.

The Lions captain was restricted to light duties while the rest of the team was put through a searching two-hour session in steamy conditions, but he said he was "feeling good" by the finish.

"I'm glad to be back," Brown said as he headed for the dressing rooms after training.

Last week teammate Matt Maguire caught Brown with an accidental knee to his left cheekbone in a marking contest that left the 30-year-old with a fracture and requiring surgery.

He will be out for another five weeks and is expected to return in round three of the home and away season.

Brown did some run-throughs, took part in light kicking and handball drills and headed off for a jog before having a stretch while watching his teammates complete the training session.

Ruckman Ben Hudson said it was great to have the leader back with the main group.

"I briefly saw him and he told me his modelling career is on hold," Hudson joked.

"He should be right to go one more crack at it (footy), he said."

Hudson said the incident last week was a part of footy and expected Brown to be as fierce and committed as ever when he returned to contact work.

"Browny's Browny, and that's the way he plays footy," Hudson said.

"That's why teammates and supporters love him. He's big and strong, so unless you want to tell him to change his game, I reckon we'll leave it as is.

"There's going to be injuries throughout the year; unfortunately it was our captain this time and touch wood there won't be many, but it's part and parcel of footy."

Lions coach Michael Voss is still deciding how to structure his forward line in Brown's absence, but hinted on Tuesday that number one ruck Matthew Leuenberger was a candidate to spend some time there.

This would open the door for Hudson to enjoy more game time, starting with Saturday's NAB Cup match against Carlton at Maroochydore.

The former Adelaide and Western Bulldogs hard man said it was an important match to build momentum before the season began, and that Brown's injury gave a number of young faces a chance to shine.

"I think it's an opportunity for the young forwards in Retzy (Bryce Retzlaff) and (Aaron) Cornelius and guys like that," he said.

"Browny could be out for a couple of weeks so it's about working ways around it. It gives someone an opportunity and that's what footy's about, taking advantage of those."
