The Brisbane Lions have jumped to second place on the Smithy's VFL ladder with one round remaining, following a 25-point win over Sandringham on Saturday.

Brisbane's pressure from the first bounce was at AFL standard, forcing turnovers with their fierce tackling game and physicality. Tom Fullarton got the visitors away to a fast start with first major of the match, before heading into the first break with seven goals to Sandringham's two.

The second quarter saw much of the same desperation from Brisbane, keeping the Zebra's to just two points while kicking another four majors to extend the lead to 58-points at the major break.

Sandringham mounted a comeback in the second half but the Lions scoreboard damage early in the match proved too big a challenge, leading Brisbane to their 13th win of the season.

Committed father-son prospect, Will Ashcroft was the leading disposal getter on the ground, collecting 32 disposals while receiving plenty of opposition attention at stoppages. He also gathered 6 tackles, 6 clearances and a classy goal in a big day out.

Dev Robertson showed plenty of maturity in his first game in a fortnight. The 21-year-old attacked contests with aggression, collecting 9 tackles and 24 disposals and a major for his efforts.

A trio of Lions kicked a trio of goals with Tom Fullarton, Henry Smith and Kai Lohmann all snagging three goals each, with the latter putting himself into Mark of the Year contention following an impressive leap in the third quarter.

Darryl McDowell-White (son of Darryl White) also made his VFL debut and will be all the better for the experience, collecting 8 disposals, 4 clearances and even showing the trademark of his father when he held the footy up with one hand after taking a contested mark.

Brisbane's win was soured by an injury to Blake Coleman, who suffered a concussion in a friendly fire moment with teammate, Kalin Lane

The Lions will now face the undefeated Casey Demons in the final home and away game in a massive test before finals.
