Shannon Campbell continues to write her way into the Brisbane Lions and AFLW history books. And that will continue in Sunday’s Season 7 opener against Fremantle at The Gabba.

The defender started this trend by becoming the club’s first ever AFLW goalkicker in 2017, then four years later playing a role in the Lions winning the 2021 premiership.

Campbell will join another exclusive club on Sunday when she becomes just the fourth player at the Lions to reach the 50-game milestone.

“I’m proud of myself for getting to where I am,” she said.

“To still be a part of this club and play 50 games and be part of the OG group that has been here since day one and to continually working on myself to become a better player leader and person.

“It means the world to be able to play 50 games for this club and to be able to run out with these girls on the weekend especially when we get to run out on the Gabba for round 1.”

Campbell has made a name for herself as a tough, reliable defender who is relentless in the contest, and a strong overhead mark who can read the play well.

As the excitement of not only Round 1 continues to build ahead of Sunday, but Season 7 as a whole, the former college soccer player has hopeful of history repeating.

And in the meantime, Campbell is just loving every day as a Brisbane Lion.

“Obviously I want to achieve another premiership with this club,” she emphasised.

“I just want to keep giving 110 per cent for this group. We have definitely learnt over the last couple of years how much we can push ourselves and I want to keep doing that both on and off field

“But I think also I just wanting to keep improving every game and then hopefully every year that I get the chance to play.

“I’m also super proud of what our Club has achieved as a whole, no matter what was thrown our way through expansions, COVID and everything the girls always are wanting to get better and pushing the limits and riding the wave.”

The Brisbane Lions begin their AFLW Season 7 AFLW campaign on Sunday against Fremantle at The Gabba with the match starting at 2:10pm.
