A staggering 553 days since she last pulled on the Brisbane Lions guernsey, Lily Postlethwaite will make her AFLW return in this Sunday’s NAB AFLW Season 7 opener at The Gabba.

The 20-year-old missed the better part of the Lions’ 2021 Premiership season and the entirety of the 2022 campaign after sustaining an ACL injury in Round 4, 2021.

The Sunshine Coast product made her return to the State League competition earlier this year, dominating in the QAFLW for the Maroochydore Roos.

But Sunday will see Postlethwaite return to the elite level, named in Head Coach Craig Starcevich’s Best 21.

With 11 AFLW games under her belt, the silky defender is an exciting addition to an already threatening Lions’ line-up.

All Australian winger Orla O’Dwyer has also been named in the side to face Fremantle after recovering from shoulder surgery.

Key defender Shannon Campbell will notch up her 50th AFLW game on Sunday, entering her into the AFLW record books as one of a handful of players to have achieved the historic milestone.

The Foundation Lion won’t be the only milestone player come Sunday, with ruck Tahlia Hickie also set to play her 25th AFLW game at the Club in Round 1.

The Brisbane Lions will face Fremantle on Sunday August 28 at 2:10PM at the Gabba.
