The Brisbane Lions are thrilled to welcome AFL Premiership player Dale Morris to their coaching team in 2023.

Morris, who played 253 matches at AFL level, which included winning the Flag in 2016 with the Western Bulldogs, joins the Lions as Development Coach.

The former All Australian retired at the end of 2019 after a decorated 15 year playing career with the Bulldogs, before transitioning into the role of their Development Coach in 2020.

Morris made the move north to Brisbane last year with his family and said he was looking forward to joining the maroon, blue and gold.

“I’m really excited and grateful to be joining the Brisbane Lions coaching group,” he said.

“The Lions are such a proud Club and have done a lot right over a long period of time, so I can’t wait to contribute to this.

“I’m pumped with the opportunity of working with such a talented and exciting group of players and coaches, and be part of a great football Club.”

Morris will work alongside a new-gigged coaching team at the Lions, with former Forwards Coach Jed Adcock and Murray Davis, previously Backline Coach, switching roles.

Cameron Bruce retains the position of Midfield Coach and will add the Stoppage Coach role to his mix, taking over from Ben Hudson, who’s been appointed Head Coach of the Lions VFL side. In addition, Hudson will still work with the ruck men.

Mitch Hahn has been appointed Head Coach of the Lions Male Academy, while former Brisbane Lions AFLW Premiership Captain, Emma Zielke, remains in Chris Fagan’s team as part of the AFL Women's Coach Acceleration Program, as Female Academy Head Coach.

Rounding out the engine room is Mark Stone, who will continue as Strategy Coach.

“We are very lucky to add Dale to our coaching group,” said General Manager Football, Danny Daly.

“Dale has had a fantastic career as a player and leader for the Bulldogs but we are also gaining a quality person into our organisation who will help us moving forward.

“We have now also finalised our senior coaching group changes and are very happy with the team that we have assembled to support our players and Fages as we go All In in Season 2023.”

The Lions will begin their preseason later this month at their newly opened $80 million training and administration centre in Springfield; Brighton Homes Arena.
