Head Coach Craig Starcevich says his side will be on guard for a “fierce battle” against defending Premiers Adelaide come Friday’s Preliminary Final.

With a rivalry that extends back to the very season and a spot in the 2022 Season 7 Grand Final on the line, Friday’s contest is shaping up as one of the biggest matches of the season.

“The games between these two Clubs are always fierce,” Starcevich said.

“We got over the line [against Adelaide] a month ago, but a fair bit has happened since then and we need to be ready for them tomorrow.

“We can reassure ourselves that our preparation has been very good, and not just in the last month or so, but it’s been a four or five month build up and that aspect of it gives you a little bit of confidence.

“But we know we’re playing an opponent who have been there plenty of times themselves.

“We’ve got a great history with them and are expecting a fierce battle tomorrow.

The Lions arrive at Friday night’s Final off the back of a week’s break, following their electric Qualifying Final win over Richmond two weeks ago.

“We did have a hard hit out last weekend just to make sure we stay in battle mode,”

“But to have the week away from playing last week and all the mental and physical toll that it takes was actually quite good to freshen up.

“But we need to be ready to get our hands dirty and get into it again tomorrow.”

Starcevich is hoping a big Lions crowd can turn out at Metricon Stadium to get behind the Queensland side in Friday’s must-win clash.

“It’ll be fantastic to have a big crowd there,”

“I know the timing is difficult for people but if you can find your way down there you’ll see a great game of footy between two really good teams.

“Tomorrow night I can absolutely guarantee you will have two cracking teams to watch, so if you can get there, absolutely get there.”
