Brisbane Lions foundation player Sharni Webb and forward Luka Yoshida-Martin will both be sidelined for the 2023 AFLW season after suffering injuries during training.

Webb ruptured her achilles while Yoshida-Martin tore her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).

Returning from a year off in 2021 following the birth of her daughter, Webb played four games across Season 6 and 7.

While developing youngster Yoshida-Martin made her debut in Season 6 against St Kilda booting a goal and adding two more games to her tally in 2022.

Webb has undergone surgery, with Yoshida-Martin set for an operation in the coming weeks before the pair begin their rehabilitation programs.

Brisbane Lions Head of Women’s Football, Breanna Brock, said it was an unfortunate setback and everyone at the club is feeling for both players.

“Sharni and Luka are valuable assets to our group and their presence will definitely be missed out on the track,” Brock said.

“To miss a season is never ideal but everyone at the club will be supporting them through their recovery and that will be our focus.

“The club will work through their options over the coming weeks.”
