The Brisbane Lions are putting their pride on show by launching their AFLW Pride Guernsey to be worn for in 2023 NAB AFLW Season Pride Round next weekend.

Giving the guernsey extra meaning is that it was designed in collaboration with Lions AFLW player Phoebe Monahan.

The Club is encouraging as many Lions fans as possible to wear one of the guernseys in a bid to shower Brighton Homes Arena in an array of colour for their Round 10 blockbuster with Melbourne.

The design features the Pride Rainbow, featured in a paint splatter style across the torso and back, behind the traditional Fitzroy Lion, demonstrating the Club’s support of the LGBTQI+ community and the desire to be a Club for all.

For Monahan, the guernsey and Pride Round provides an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of individuals that make up the AFLW community, including players, staff, members and fans.

“I sat down and wasn’t sure what my design would be but decided that there is no wrong or right way to go about it which is part of what Pride Round is about,” Monahan said.

“I’m so happy with how it looks and so fair everyone loves it and hopefully that flows on to our fans too.

“Personally, it has big meaning to me and some of the issues of had to deal with around my sexuality recently but I’m proud to stand up for who I am and I’m proud that I can show that through this guernsey.”

Fans heading to the clash against Melbourne on November 4 are encouraged to wear rainbow attire in support of the LGBTQI+ community, with tickets still available.

A limited number of replica guernseys will be available in-store and online from Monday October 23.

Fans attending the game can purchase the 2023 Pride guernsey for $119.99 here.
