Brisbane Lions 2021 AFLW premiership captain Emma Zielke will present the 2023 AFLW Premiership on Sunday if the Lions are victorious against North Melbourne.

Zielke, the Lions inaugural AFLW skipper and a Life Member, was chosen by the Club to hand the cup to coach Craig Starcevich and captain Bre Koenen.

Brisbane Lions CEO, Greg Swann said that Zielke deserved the honour given all she has done for women’s football.

“There are few people as deserving as Emma Zielke to have the honour of presenting the Premiership Cup on Sunday, should we win the Grand Final,” Swann said.

“Not only was she the very first Brisbane Lions AFLW captain, but she also led the team to a Premiership herself in 2021 and is a Life Member of the Club.

“Emma has also played a significant role in helping develop a lot of these Lions AFLW players and the next generation of female footballers coming through the Queensland pathway in her role as our Academy Head Coach of the female program.

“Everyone at the Brisbane Lions is extremely grateful for everything Emma has done and continues to do and we can’t wait to hopefully watch her handover the premiership cup on Sunday.”

The Lions premiership captain said having the honour bestowed upon her was humbling, but something that meant a lot her.

“To play in a Grand Final is an amazing feat and we as a Club have been fortunate enough to be in this position on five occasions in AFLW,” Zielke said.

“I was part of our win in 2021 and I’m honoured that I’m able to be part of this group’s journey this season and I’m looking forward to an amazing contest on Sunday.”
