The Brisbane Lions have bolstered its premiership-winning list by securing West Coast duo Shanae Davison and Eleanor Hartill in a three-club trade which also involved Geelong.
To complete the trade for the Eagles pair the Lions sent pick 24 to West Coast, while trading young Lion Bella Smith along with pick 32 and pick 41 to the Geelong Cats.
Geelong traded Annabel Johnson to the West Coast Eagles and pick 36 and pick 57 to the Lions.
Davison, known for her outside run and ball-use, is coming off her best season at AFLW level, playing nine games and reaching career highs across the stats sheet.
Hartill, an athletic and versatile 23-year-old who stands at 185-centimetres, arrives in Brisbane after two promising seasons at the Eagles where she played 16 games.
βWeβre very excited to have Shanae and Eleanor join us at the Lions in 2024 and feel they will fit well into our group,β Lions Head of Womenβs Football, Breanna Brock said.
βShanae is someone that weβve identified fits our game style to a tee.
βHer ability to break lines and create great run on the outside is something we reallyΒ value, and we feel she will beΒ a great addition.
βEleanor will be a great addition to our group, she brings with her a unique set of skills and we excited to see her develop in our program.
βShe is someone that we haveΒ identified can be used at both ends of ground as well as in the ruck if needed.β
This trade sees young midfielder Bella Smith head to Geelong, while also in the same day the Lions traded Ella Smith to the Gold Coast SUNS.
βItβs sad to see Bella and Ella go, but we wish them all the best in their next chapter,β Brock said.
βEllaβs been such a professional throughout our program, coming from a high-level rowing background.
βShe had really elite habits from the get-go and has been a really popular member of our group.
βAnd Bella has been a great teammate, always helping others and shows a lot of care, which will hold her in good stead at her new club.
βA real highlight this year was her debut game in Rd 9 and great reward for all her hard work returning from an ACL injury, we wish her all the best.β
