The Brisbane Lions confirm no injuries were sustained in Saturday’s thrilling Semi-Final win against GWS Giants at Sydney’s ENGIE Stadium.
Coach Chris Fagan now has almost a full list of available players to choose from to face Geelong in a Preliminary Final at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
Co-Captain and midfielder Lachie Neale attracted plenty of media attention as he returned home to Brisbane on Sunday wearing a moonboot on his left foot.
Brisbane Lions High Performance Manager Damien Austin explained why and gave more detail into the management of Neale.
“Lachie is right to play against Geelong on Saturday,” Austin confirmed.
“He has some heel soreness which we have been managing with him for several weeks now and during that time he has still played some exceptional footy.
“As part of his management plan we have had him wear a moonboot on several occasions, especially after games.
“Wearing the moonboot is the best possible recovery for a foot or ankle injury as it aids and speeds up the healing process by decreasing the load on the foot.
“We have used this approach with Lachie and other players that have had foot or ankle injuries and have great results with it.”
Neale will again this week follow the same training program he has for months, which saw him take part in stationary skills and swimming on Tuesday.
The two-time Brownlow Medallist will do a full training session on Thursday and then take part in Friday’s open captain’s run at the MCG.
The Lions can however confirm Bruce Reville will be unavailable for selection this week due to a hamstring injury.
Reville came from the field in the final quarter of Saturday’s Smithy’s VFL Preliminary Final with hamstring tightness.
Scans on Monday confirmed a minor hamstring strain.
The club expects Reville to be available next week should the Lions advance through the 2024 AFL Grand Final.
