The Youi Brisbane Lions Academy has continued a strong 2025 campaign with 15 players named in the Under 18 Girls Queensland State Squad.
Each of the 15 players selected will be hoping to make the final team which will compete at this year’s Marsh National Championships.
Highlighting the top-level talent in the Youi Brisbane Lions Academy saw draft eligible players Kaiya Hies, Issy McDonough, Jemma Foley, Mon Corrigan and Niamh McCarthy included.
After being named as All-Australian at the 2025 Marsh National Championships – Under 16 Girls, Millie Murray and Edie Fraser have also been selected.
The pair will be joined by a host of 17-year-old talent made up of Aiyana Pritchard, Ella Gibson, Jade Brazier, Harlee McIllwain, Mia Geere, Molly Ferguson, Stella Scott, Zoe Petrides.
It is not just the players from Youi Brisbane Lions Academy that have been rewarded with selection.
Head Coach of Female Programs, Emma Zielke, has also be appointed as coach of the Queensland team.
Zielke said she was incredible proud of the consistency of the girls' performances.
“To have a record number of girls selected in the Queensland squad is a great reward for our program and demonstration of their consistency since November last year,” she said.
“I’m incredibly proud of this group of girls, their dedication and diligence toward their football as athletes so early on their journey has been phenomenal.
“We are very excited to see the girls run out in the Big Q at the National Championships.”
The 2025 Marsh AFL National Championships – U18 Girls will be played from Saturday, June 22 to Sunday, August 10.
