The Brisbane Lions are hungry for a goal feast on Thursday night against the Essendon at the Gabba, but their incentive is far more than just winning the game.

For every Lions goal kicked, the Club will donate $500 to its game day charity partner, Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ).

The non-for-profit organisation provides accommodation and support programs for families with ill or injured children.

They help families stay together in the midst of physical, emotional, and financial stress, with accommodation at Herston, South Brisbane, the Queensland Children’s Hospital and the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Brisbane Lions veteran Dayne Zorko knows the importance of RMHC SEQ through his involvement as an ambassador for many years.

Zorko, who has kicked 236 goals in his career, said he hope he and his teammates can pile on the goals on Thursday night.

“We all love kicking a goal and this week we have added motivation to kick plenty of them.” The Lions premiership veteran said.

“Everyone at the Brisbane Lions love the incredible work that Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland.

“As players we have the ability to really support the work they do and whether that is a visit to Ronald McDonald House or helping with fundraisers, we love to be involved.

“The best part of this campaign is that as a defender I can sneak forward to kick a goal or two and I can’t get in trouble with the forwards or the coach.”

Many of those from RMHC SEQ will be involved in Thursday night’s match including the coin toss, being in the guard of honour and running out with the Lions as the team’s junior mascot.

The Ronald McDonald Houses and programs are run by a tirelessly hard-working team of staff and volunteers, aided by the generous support of donors, sponsors and corporate partners.

"We are delighted to be named as game day partner for the Brisbane Lions' match this week,” Emma Thompson, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland said.

“All funds raised on the night go directly towards providing essential accommodation and support programs to families with children who are ill or injured.

"RMHC SEQ relies on support from the entire community. Without these generous contributions, we would be unable to keep our doors open to families in need 365 days a year.

"We wish the team the best of luck on the night and look forward to the exciting on-field opportunities some of our families will get to experience.”
