The 19-year-old is yet another Youi Brisbane Lions Academy graduate, with the homegrown Queensland local via the Maroochydore Football Club.

Gallop now gets to live out his childhood dream following senior coach Chris Fagan telling him after training on Tuesday that he had been picked to face the Crows.

“It’s really exciting to make my debut and even more so under the Friday night lights at Adelaide Oval as it should be a great atmosphere,” Gallop said.

“Being an emergency for a few weeks in a row and being around the boys has been a great opportunity to see how they prepare and get ready for the game.

“My expectations are to just go out and compete, get too as many contests as I can and play my role.”

The same qualities and attributes that saw Gallop drafted to the Lions are the same ones that see him picked to debut for the reigning premier.

Gallop is described as a powerful, competitive key position forward who has strong hands, is a good reader of the ball and is impressive on the lead.

After arriving in Adelaide on Thursday, it was just before Captain’s Run at Adelaide Oval that Fagan announced the news to the rest of the playing group.

“What we love about you is the way you compete,” Fagan said to Gallop in front of his teammates.

“You compete in the air, you compete on the ground when the ball hits the ground, you chase you tackle, and you do a whole lot of things.

“We have been really keen to have you in the team at some point in time and its worked out that it’s on this big game on this weekend.

“We have got no doubt that tomorrow night you will be giving it all you’ve got, because that’s one thing I’ve got no doubt about with you.

“You are big, you are strong so just impose yourself and don’t worry about how old you are, just go out and play and enjoy it.”
