Daniel Annable has been part of the Youi Brisbane Lions Academy since he was 12 years old, coming into his draft year he reflected on his journey. 

Being developed under the watchful eye of Youi Lions Academy coach Mitch Hahn and assistant Grant Birchall for the last three years, Annable was incredibly grateful for their wealth of knowledge. 

“I’ve been able to pick their brains and bring heaps of different stuff into my game, he said.  

“I've seen over the three years in the program a lot of improvement, which is what we're striving for as part of the Academy program. 

“I gained some good experience playing in the Coates Talent League which has helped me into my draft year. 

“A lot of work goes into it behind on scenes, not only for me but the coaches that are able to provide time and effort to help.” 

The Redlands-Victoria Point Sharks product who spent the recent AFL pre-season honing his craft with the like of Lachie Neale and Josh Dunkley took plenty away from their tutelage. 

“I was able to learn a lot from the AFL boys, just the reaction times in the game and the professionalism side of it too. 

“There’s no time to dwell on mistakes you’ve got to move to the next contest which was a bit of a learning curve but the group was so welcoming.” 

With the support of Lions Legacy, Annable has been able to better himself as a footballer and as a person helping him land a job at Rebel Sport to provide him with a balance between footy and his personal life. 

“The support the Academy receives from Lions Legacy is tremendous and everyone involved is incredibly grateful for that. 

“It goes a long way to helping the academies sharpen their tools and resources to give kids in Queensland the best chance at making the next level. 

“So being able to push that towards, especially young kids, is tremendous and the donations definitely help with that.”
