The Club hosted a citizenship ceremony at The Gabba before our Round 22 match against the Sydney Swans, celebrating 44 new Australian citizens from 18 different countries of origin.

Brisbane Lions Community Manager, James Dowling, said Saturday afternoon’s clash with the Swans was the perfect stage for this occasion.

“The Lions have been delivering these ceremonies in conjunction with Multicultural Australia since 2017, and it is a day we look forward to all year,” Dowling said.

“Being able to share our game and our home at the Gabba with our newest citizens is always a privilege. Our newest Australians will remember the day they received their citizenship for a very long time, so for the Lions to be a part of this memory is quite special.

“The excitement of our newest citizens and program participants witnessing our game live for the first time is amazing to be a part of.

“It is great to see how welcoming our fantastic footy community is – many of our members elected to swap from their seats and sat with our newest citizens during the match to help explain our game.”

The Lions have been working with Multicultural Australia and the Queensland State Government as we continue to promote diversity and inclusion in our community.
