The Lions have long maintained a strong association with Fitzroy FC and enjoy following the progress of the club’s sponsored players each year.

For the 2025 season, the Brisbane Lions are again supporting two developing young footballers – Olivia Brilliant and Louis Hodder – who represent the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) competition.

The men’s and women’s teams play alternate weeks in front of enthusiastic supporters at the famous Brunswick Street Oval in Fitzroy.

This year, the women’s seniors and reserves are playing in the VAFA Premier Division, with so many players registered that the Club entered a third women’s team for the first time.

Senior Coach Nathan Jumeau said that Olivia Brilliant “does everything she is asked to do and is a pleasure to coach”.

A silky skilled left-foot midfielder, she is in her second year with Fitzroy and, despite having injuries this year, she has been selected in the VAFA Big V squad.

“She is always hard at it on the field, both offensively and defensively,” said Nathan.

Fitzroy’s senior and reserves men’s teams are playing in VAFA’s Premier B Division in 2025, boosted by the transition of several players from last year’s U19s, including forward Louis Hodder - the highest goal scorer in his VAFA U19 competition last year.

Louis, according to Senior Coach Travis Ronaldson, is a “dynamic lead up forward with great hands who is also very accurate in front of goal”.

“He is having a great first season at senior level, spending time both as a high lead up forward and as a deep target,” said Travis.

With a strong commitment to improving his game through hard work and a professional approach, Travis says that Louis is seen as a “player integral to our future at Fitzroy”.

The Club is proud to have Olivia and Louis continue this important connection with Fitzroy FC.

We wish them well for the remainder of the season and will follow their ensuing careers with interest.
