The Brisbane Lions have added another trophy to the cabinet this year with the 2025 AFL Premiers announced as Queensland’s ‘Team of the Year’ at the 2025 QSport Awards in Brisbane, last night.

Lions Premiership Coach, Chris Fagan accepted the award on behalf of the team.

The QSport Team of the Year award comes off the back of a stellar year for the Lions with the club winning back to back AFL Premierships, the McClelland Trophy and Chris Fagan winning the AFL Coaches Association’s Allan Jeans award for Coach of the Year.

The Lions AFLW team also remain in the hunt for another piece of silverware with the squad competing in their fourth consecutive Grand Final on Saturday night against North Melbourne.

Accepting the award, Fagan paid tribute to his players and the wider Lions administration team.

“It's a great honour to be standing up here and representing the Brisbane Lions Footy Club on the back of winning two Premierships in a row,” he said.

“It’s pretty hard to do and takes a great team of people on and off the field to achieve it.

“It's always challenging, after you win a flag, everyone comes after you and I think our boys, this year, showed a lot of humble confidence and when we played in the big games this brought out the best in us.

“I feel like everybody at the club both on and off the field has earned this award.

“We've been a really good team now for about seven years, we’ve played in the last three Grand Finals and we hope we can do it again.”

The 2025 Team of the Year award follows on from QSport successes in 2024 where Fagan was awarded the QSport Coach of the year award and Triple Premiership player, Shaun Hart was inducted into the Queensland Sport Hall of Fame.

QSport is the peak body for sport in Queensland. The Annual Queensland Sport Awards have been running since 1995, and serve to celebrate the achievements of athletes, coaches, officials, administrations and organisations.
