The Brisbane Lions two-time premiership player, Taylor Smith will join the Sydney Swans as part of a three club-trade.
Smith will head to the Swans along with Pick 18, 28 and 46 in the 2025 AFLW Draft in exchange for Sydney’s pick 11, 15, 29 and 47.
Hawthorn traded pick 33 to Lions, with the Hawks receiving a future first and third round selection from the Swans, along with two future third round selections, one tied to Brisbane and the other tied to Port Adelaide as part of the deal.
Lions Head of Women’s Football, Breeanna Brock said Smith had been an enormous part of the Club’s success over the last five years.
“Taylor has grown up with us - after being delisted by the Suns, she went back to the QAFLW and showed a real grit and determination to get back on a list,” Brock said
“We watched her that season and saw a talent that we could develop.
“She's now a two-time premiership player, club leading goalkicker in 2024 and 2025, was the joint AFLW leading goalkicker in 2024 along with her first All-Australian selection. That's a fair way to come in 6 seasons.
“We’ve been through a lot together both on and off-field and we’ve seen her grow not only as a player but as a person too.
“While we are disappointed to see Taylor go, AFLW is a little different to the men’s space. Taylor had some professional opportunities to explore outside of football in Sydney, which was too good for her to refuse.
“We’ve been supportive of Taylor’s wishes to explore this and managed to get the trade done with the help of Hawthorn. We wish Taylor and partner Tom all the best for the next chapter in their lives."
