Brisbane Lions premiership defender Darcy Gardiner has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at Brighton Homes Arena until the end of 2027.

The 30-year-old veteran, drafted from the Geelong Falcons with Pick 22 in 2013, has been a stalwart of the club since his debut in 2014.

Playing predominately as a defender, Gardiner has gained a reputation as ‘Mr Fix-it’ under coach Chris Fagan, having also been deployed as a forward when needed.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the club for the last 12 seasons and putting their faith in me to keep contributing next season,” Gardiner said.

“We’ve come so far as group since Fages arrived in 2017 and to be part of this rise to achieving the ultimate success last season is something I’ll cherish forever.

“As for this season, I’m excited to be going into another year healthy and raring to go.”

Gardiner, who played a key role in the Lions 2025 AFL Premiership triumph, is highly respected and trusted by his teammates as someone who gives his all every week.

Brisbane Lions General Manager Football, Danny Daly said having Gardiner playing on in 2027 was great news for the Club and the defender himself.

“It’s really pleasing to see Darcy sign a new contract and it was so great to see him get a well-deserved premiership medal in 2025,’ Daly said

“His professionalism and dedication have been a hallmark of his career and it is what makes him such a dependable player for both the coaching staff and his teammates.

“We look forward to having Darcy, his wife Sophie and their families continue to be part of the Brisbane Lions.”
