The curtain raiser to Saturday’s AFL QClash saw youngster Sam Tilley put the Lion’s first major on the board in the opening minutes, but from there it was a one-sided affair with Gold Coast keeping Brisbane goalless for the rest of the quarter, the Lions trailing by 17 points going into the first break.
The Lions struggled to find momentum for much of the second term.
Goals to Cody Curtin and Zack Zakostelsky in the dying minutes kept the Lions in touch as they went into the half time break.
It was much of the same in the third term with the Lions only managing to put four points on the board.
The fourth quarter saw a major turnaround from Brisbane, with the Lions winning the quarter and keeping the Suns searching for the goal posts.
Fergus McFayden kicked two majors, whilst Jake Fazldeen, Charlie Offermans, Caylen Murray and Curtin each added one.
It wasn’t quite enough to bridge the gap with Brisbane going down 17 points.
Next up, the Lions travel to face Werribee at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday 12pm for Round 12 of Smithy’s VFL.
