Ashcroft was crowned the Lions’ Best and Fairest at the Club Champion Dinner at The Star on Thursday night.
The three-time premiership player and dual Norm Smith medallist polled 71 votes, edging out runner-up Josh Dunkley, who finished on 69.
Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan described the honour as fitting recognition for a season in which Ashcroft repeatedly delivered on the biggest stage.
“He’s a great player and when you look at what he produces in the big games and on the big stage, he consistently delivers,” Fagan said.
“He had a wonderful year, particularly through the second half of the season, and has established himself as one of the best players in the competition.
“He puts in a lot of work away from the field. He is always working at his craft, watching vision and searching for ways to improve.
“His clean hands and awareness of where his teammates have really set him apart.
“If he gets some luck with injury, he will be a strong chance to win another Merrett-Murray Medal over the next few years.”
Ashcroft’s influence in the Grand Final was, in Fagan’s eyes, the clearest example of that composure and game awareness.
“He was extraordinary in the Grand Final. The way he handled those last five minutes was beyond his experience,” Fagan said.
“He put the team on his shoulders and helped us get across the line with his clearance work.”
