Ruck and midfield Coach Ben Hudson told lions.com.au that Sunday afternoon’s comeback victory against the Kangaroos builds belief within the group.

In 2018 the Lions lost five matches within seven points.

“We did lose those games last year so it shows elements of growth in our game,” Hudson said.

“I think it just builds a bit of belief.

“It was a see-sawing battle towards the end and we were able to finish North off.

“It was huge for our confidence.”

Hudson’s two rucks stood tall on Sunday afternoon, producing elite performances.

Stefan Martin dominated in the ruck, with the Lions winning the clearance battle 20-10.

While Oscar McInerney, who moved between ruck and forward, kicked two critical goals in the third quarter.

“He (Mcinerney) was able to clunk a few down there, which left Steph in the ruck and he was able to get on top and help win some clearances out of the middle,” Hudson said.

“They played their role.”

The duo will have a big task on their hands when they meet Port Adelaide this weekend. The Power also remain undefeated after two rounds and their ruckman Paddy Ryder and Scott Lycett are considered some of the best in the competition.

“It’s probably just [about] stopping their ability to get on top,” he said.

“Their midfield is a strength and I suppose Port as a team now are a bit like us, got a lot of confidence going.

“It will be a huge challenge and hopefully we can get a huge crowd out there to help get us over the line.”
