The Lions have a total of 11 VFL/AFL Premierships - eight as Fitzroy (in 1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916, 1922 and 1944) and three as the merged Brisbane Lions (from 2001-2003) - which is the 5th most in the game’s history.
Only Carlton (16), Essendon (16), Collingwood (15) and Melbourne (12) have won more Premierships than the Lions.
Interestingly, four of the Lions’ 11 Premierships have been won against Collingwood, with the Club also enjoying two Grand Final wins over both Carlton and Essendon.
But proof of exactly hard difficult it is to achieve that ultimate success is evident by the fact that both St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs have each won just one Premiership in 125 years and 87 years respectively.
That stat makes the Lions’ effort in winning three consecutive Premierships from 2001-03 even more remarkable.
