Many of the old Fitzroy faithful were out in full voice last Saturday as Fitzroy FC secured both the VAFA Premier C division senior and reserves premierships with wins against Old Geelong at Trevor Barker Oval.
It was the club’s first senior premiership since Fitzroy merged with the Reds back in 2008.
After a nail-biting finish in the reserves decider, which Fitzroy claimed by just nine points, the senior team came out firing with eight unanswered goals in the opening term in blustery conditions.
Despite a few anxious moments when Old Geelong responded with the next four goals in the second term, the result was never really in doubt with the Roys dominating their opponents thereafter and running out 70-point winners – 16.11 (107) to 5.7 (37).

The emotion of the day was captured by an impromptu singing of the club song out on the oval with the spectators joining the players.
