The Brisbane Lions will head into the 2012 NAB AFL National Draft on Thursday 22 November with three valuable selections - Picks 8, 24, and 33.

But while most of the pre-Draft discussions will likely surround who the Club might select with its prized Pick No.8, fans should keep a close eye on whoever lands at the Lions with Pick No.33.

Since the 1996 merger, the Lions have used Pick No.33 three times - and every player drafted to the Club with that particular selection has gone on to enjoy a long and successful AFL career.

In 1998, the Lions welcomed Craig Bolton from the NSW/ACT Rams - who after 29 games with the Club during its golden era, moved to Sydney in search of more senior opportunities.

Bolton went on to become an All-Australian premiership defender and Swans Co-Captain, before eventually hanging up the boots at the beginning of the 2011 season with 199 AFL matches next to his name.

The Lions also found the final piece of their Premiership puzzle courtesy of Pick No.33 at the 2000 Draft, when they took a punt on the mature-age Martin Pike.

Pike came to the Club with a successful, yet sometimes colourful, AFL history after previous stints with Melbourne, Fitzroy and North Melbourne.

But his recruitment proved a masterstroke and directly coincided with a hat-trick of AFL Premierships. Pike ended up playing 106 games for the Brisbane Lions (and 36 with Fitzroy).

The most recent time the Lions used Pick No.33 was back in 2003, when they drafted Victorian Country teenager Jed Adcock.

Adcock is about to embark on his 10th season with the Club in 2013, and is just nine games short of the 150-game milestone (which will earn him Lions Life Membership).

He has twice finished inside the Club Champion top three, and has previously been named in the AFL All Australian preliminary squad.

The Brisbane Bears also had a good history with the No.33 draft pick - landing triple Premiership player and Norm Smith Medallist Shaun Hart in 1989.

I’m sure all Lions fans wouldn’t mind seeing another Hart, Bolton, Pike or Adcock join the Club with Pick No.33 in the upcoming 2012 AFL National Draft.
