A leader on and off the field, Sam Virgo uses encouragement to motivate her teammates to be their best.

A new club, new team and new coaches can be daunting but Virgo says all things are going well with the group.

“The team’s gelling really well, everyones catching up off the field, really getting round each other, really challenging each other on the field to really lift our standards, it’s good,” Virgo said on Lions TV.

“Being encouraging at training is key I think, we have to create a really positive environment, we have to make sure that we are making mistakes here but making sure we get around each other and force each other to get better. Positive always means that’s really easy to do.”

Virgo said lastnight's session was tough, but rewarding.

“Tough, it was probably our toughest session yet, really good, really hard work. Everyone was sweating quite a bit, so it was really good,” she said.

Virgo made the move from Moorooka AFC to Yeronga AFC at the start of 2016 and has seen phenomenal improvement. She shared honours with her Lions team mate, Leah Kaslar of the QWAFL Best & Fairest award which proves this. She hopes to continue her development by focusing on her fitness and skills.

“My focus for pre-season is really trying to improve my fitness and skills as well. Really refining those and making sure everything that we do is elite,” She said.

Keep an eye on Sam Virgo in Season 2017, she’ll be the one with the big smile on her face.
