Jessica Wuetschner will play her 25th game for the Brisbane Lions after the star forward was named in Head Coach Craig Starcevich’s final team for Sunday afternoon’s Round 4 AFLW clash against GWS GIANTS at Hickey Park. Wuetschner will start on the interchange bench, alongside Belle Dawes, Orla O’Dyyer, Lily Postlethwaite and Maria Moloney. This will be her first game for the Lions since Round 1’s win over Adelaide.

Gabby Collingwood and Tahlia Hickie have been named as emergencies.

Joining Wuetschner in the 25 games club this weekend are her Foundation Eight teammates Shannon Campbell and Breanna Koenen.

Koenen said Wuetschner has been incredibly resilient the last month after being involved in a workplace accident in late January, where she was struck by lightning.

“She’s done extremely well to even be back playing at this stage,” Koenen said.

“It will be excellent to have her back out on the field as well.”

Wuetschner is considered one of the best forwards in the game and offers strong leadership and experience in the Lions forward line.

The Lions AFLW side has an unbeaten record against the GIANTS in the regular season but Koenen believes Sunday’s game will be tough.

“They’ve got an entirely different group, the same as us and it’s a really important match for us as we’re in the same conference.”
