Brisbane Lions Senior Coach, Chris Fagan, mentioned during the week that he is personally calling each of his players weekly throughout this period of football shutdown and Jarrod Berry was only too happy to sing his praises as a Coach, and as a mentor during this weeks’ The Roar Deal podcast with Mike and Dom.

Aside from following up with players on their at-home fitness programs, Fagan believes it’s his duty to check in on his players mental health and wellbeing as well and so spends most of his week calling the 47 players on his list for a check in.

“It’s just a general chat about welfare and your mental state as well as what you’re up to, how you’re keeping busy and any tips and tricks that he’s developed himself during isolation,” said Berry.

“The big one I’ve taken on is waking up early, starting the day right and getting my training done first up. That sets me up for a good day and that was one of his suggestions during our conversations.

“He’ll also ask about family, how they are and check in on personal relationships.

“Fages has a wealth of knowledge and experience and I really look forward to those calls each week.”

Berry even went as far as to say that Fagan is one of his life mentors alongside his dad and grandfather.

“He’s had a big influence on my life. He’s really great to just throw questions at and will come back with some great answers.

“He’s good at keeping you grounded through all of this.”
