Chris Fagan told RadioTAB this morning that although the Brisbane Lions are yet to achieve their first win this season, small improvements each week will help them get there.

“Whilst we’re not getting the wins at the moment, we’re getting those little instrumental wins to become a better footy team and hopefully down the track this year and into the future that will pay dividends,” Fagan said.

“We’ve played some really good teams and lost a couple of games by five points.

“From the perspective of a coaching and playing group, we’re a much-improved team.

“Defensively, for example, last year we conceded about 116 points a game, right now we’re conceding 94. So that’s a three and a half goal improvement in a short space of time.”

Fagan emphasised the mood at the Club was upbeat in the week leading up to Collingwood at home on Sunday afternoon.

“We always set out to win and we get disappointed when we don’t. We keep it realistic,” he said.

“We set goals that are realistic and we celebrate little improvements that we make.”

The under 50 gamers for the Lions have been impressive the past few rounds. Their inexperience has shown from time to time but Fagan emphasises the group to continue to keep chipping away.

“It’s just those little moments but that’s all part and parcel of growing and maturing as a football team,” he said.

“Unfortunately, you’d love to be able to play 100 games in 100 days but 100 games takes five years to play.”
