Some of the Brisbane Lions players flocked to Twitter last night, immediately after the 2011 AFL National Draft, to express their delight in the Club’s selections.

One of the Lions’ Trade Week recruits Dayne Zorko was among the first to publicly welcome his new team-mates to the Club.

“Welcome new cubs,” Zorko tweeted last night.

Fellow midfielders and housemates Jack Redden and Tom Rockliff even went so far as to offer temporary accommodation to one of the draftees.

“I wonder which unfortunate kid me and Rocky will be billeting up until Christmas,” Redden said.

Rockliff replied from Arizona with - “Ah sweet, cheaper rent for me then” - before adding that he thought it was “great to have a couple more Vic Country boys coming up north, and a bushie lad as well”.

But Redden’s open invitation also received a quick response from ruckman Matthew Leuenberger, who already has eyes on taking 18 year-old Billy Longer under his wing.

“You and Rockliff can rule out housing Billy Longer (#shotgunhousingtheruckman),” Leuenberger tweeted.

“Am pumped,” he continued. “The Club has been hoping for weeks that GWS wouldn’t take Longer.”

Meanwhile, Senior Coach Michael Voss could barely contain his excitement while in Sydney at the Draft, offering up the following insights via his Twitter profile.

“No.8 - Billy Longer, great result,” Voss said.

“We’re Building our tall and mid strength. Sam Docherty, Elliott Yeo and Patrick Wearden great additions also. Recruiting team done well.”

Voss also directed a tweet towards Rockliff over in Arizona, suggesting the 2011 Club Champion would be “salivating” at the prospect of having the ball fed to him by Matthew Leuenberger, Ben Hudson and Billy Longer next season.

“Licking my lips,” Rockliff replied.
