The Brisbane Lions are pleased to welcome six new additions to the Club's senior list for 2011.

Lions fans can find out more about the Club's National Draft and Trade Week acquisitions below.

JARED POLEC

Having made his SANFL debut as a 16 year-old in 2009, Jared started 2010 in the SANFL Reserves (Woodville-West Torrens) and the Eagles’ U18s prior to the National Carnival.

Jared had an outstanding U18s National Carnival and gained All Australian selection playing mainly as a wingman. On his return to the SANFL, he played one reserves match before being promoted to the senior side for the remainder of the season.

He had an outstanding finish to the season with strong performances in the Eagles’ final matches including a 17-possession first half in the Preliminary Final. Jared ended up polling an impressive six Margarey Medal votes including one best-on-ground three-vote performance.

Jared is a clean handling wingman/half-forward with outstanding left foot kicking skills. He has great pace and is most dangerous when delivering the ball into the forward 50. He is a creative player around stoppages and has the happy knack of finding the ball and losing his opponent.

Jared should add some strong offensive running to the Lions’ list.

PATRICK KARNEZIS

Patrick has just completed Year 12 at the renowned football nursery Marcellin College, which is located in the traditional Fitzroy zoning area.

Following an outstanding first few matches with the Oakleigh Chargers TAC Cup side, Patrick was selected in the Victorian National U18 team. He played as a lead-up forward/half-forward and had a memorable influence in the game against South Australia.

Although he played mainly up forward in 2010, Patrick is also capable of playing in the midfield. His major assets revolve around his ability to compete well one-on-one. He has excellent kicking skills and is a well balanced athlete who positions his body to advantage.

Patrick’s ability to play in a variety of forward roles should see him become a difficult match-up for opposition defenders because at 191cm, he is strong in the air and has exceptional ground skills for a player of his size.

JOSH GREEN

Josh played the 2010 season with the Tasmanian premiers Clarence. He enjoyed an outstanding season culminating in two best-on-ground Finals performances. As Captain of the Tasmanian U18 team, he was in outstanding form throughout the National U18 Championships until he sustained a punctured lung. Nevertheless he was selected in the U18 All Australian side.

Josh is a prolific ball winner who can be found at every stoppage and has the footy smarts to find the ball in a variety of situations. He is a courageous competitor who has an appetite for a contest and has a ready-made build for AFL.

As one of the smaller players in the draft, he is earmarked as a future on-baller who plays the game as a high possession winner. At the recent Draft Combine, Josh ran a 20m sprint in 2.92 seconds and produced an outstanding agility test time of 8.07.

RYAN LESTER

Ryan represented the Oakleigh Chargers TAC Cup side as a half-forward in 2009 and progressed into the midfield in 2010. His great early season form led to him being selected for Vic Metro where he was surprisingly selected to play at full-back where he acquitted himself with distinction.

When released against Western Australia, he relished a chance up forward and kicked two goals in a half. A truly versatile player able to genuinely play anywhere from deep back to the midfield to deep forward, he builds his game on clean hands and the ability to read the play.

Ryan’s testing at the Draft Combine confirmed his ability to produce repeated speed efforts, a key attribute of the modern footballer.

ROHAN BEWICK

Rohan graduated to the West Perth senior side in 2010 and as a result of his early season form, was selected in the Western Australian state squad. He was unfortunate to miss the State game through injury, but returned to West Perth and produced an outstanding finish to the season.

He is a wingman/half-forward who averaged 20 disposals per game including a career-high 32 possessions against reigning WAFL premiers Subiaco. Rohan also had an outstanding Draft Combine during which he displayed a high level of endurance with a 14.7 shuttle and a 10 minute 18 second 3km run.

He was added to the Lions during Trade Week with the expectation that he will provide some outside run and the odd goal when drifting forward. Rohan has commenced pre-season training in good fashion.

CLAYE BEAMS

As a rookie, Claye had an outstanding inaugural season with the Brisbane Lions Reserves which culminated in his selection in the QAFL Team of the Year.

A strong clearance player who demonstrated a good football brain, Claye earned his elevation to the senior list with consistent performances at QAFL level. He was very close to senior selection towards the end of 2010 and will add depth and weight of possession to the Lions’ midfield.

He is a product of the Queensland AFL system and also was an excellent cricketer. With the progress of his brother Dayne at Collingwood, Claye rededicated himself to football and has since demonstrated strong improvement during his time at the Lions.

He booted three goals and was among the Club’s best players in the recent Shanghai Showdown Exhibition Match played against Melbourne in China back in October and has hit the ground running in his second AFL pre-season.
