The Brisbane Lions have recruited South Australian midfielder Jared Polec to the Club with its first round selection (Pick No.5 overall) at tonight’s AFL National Draft on the Gold Coast.

The 18 year-old hails from Woodville-West Torrens Seaton Ramblers and looks set to bolster the Club’s midfield stocks from next season.

AFL National Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan describes Polec as a “daring running midfielder capable of kicking a goal, with a decent size and a lethal left foot.”

“Two thirds of his possessions see him opt for his boot - which, with his accuracy, is something no coach will be caught complaining about,” Sheehan said.

“Polec works hard in defence and consistently does the right thing by his team.”

“He played all five games for South Australia in the NAB AFL U18 Championships where he averaged 20 disposals and a goal and earned All-Australian honours.”

Polec likens his own game style to that of young Fremantle star Stephen Hill.
